Shirley Curtiss, 81, of E. Main St., Sherman, N.Y., passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013, at Heritage Village, Gerry, N.Y.
She was born May 10, 1932, in Corry, Pa., the daughter of the late Amos and Hazel Gravink VanEarden.
She attended Clymer High School and worked at the Dutch Village Restaurant in her teens. She later worked as a bank teller in Sherman and as a bank manager and loan officer until she retired.
Shirley and her husband spent their winters in Florida. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She also enjoyed home decorating, music, fashion and was an avid reader. She was a member of the Sherman Community Church and a member of the Red Hatters.
Shirley is survived by her husband, Richard Curtiss of Sherman; son, Jeffrey (Mary) Curtiss of Sherman; daughter, Lisa (Martin) Buecher of Findley Lake, N.Y.; granddaughter, Jennifer Meacham (Curtiss) of Westfield, N.Y.; two great-grandchildren, Brianna and Devin Meacham of Westfield; and brother, Rev. Robert (Phyllis) VanEarden of Chino, Calif.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Janice Morton; and an infant sister, Viola VanEarden.
The funeral service will be held Friday, July 6 at 1 p.m., at the Spitzer Funeral Home, Sherman, with the Rev. Roger Westley, pastor of the Sherman Community Church, officiating. Burial will be in Holland Cemetery.
Friends will be received for two hours from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., prior to the service Friday at the funeral home.
