WESTFIELD - There were 22 golfers present at Pinehurst on Thursday, June 20.
A new format was adopted for the day called a "shamble." After each team member hit his tee shot, the best was chosen. Then each member played his own ball for the rest of the hole. After the nine holes were played, the three lowest scores were added to determine the team score.
With a score of 120, the squad of Bob Lokietek, Doug Rothwell, Marty Gollnitz and Gene Noble won first place honors. Taking second at 124 were Jim Quinn, Dennis Shively and Butch Joint.
Out of the money in third with a score of 127 were Bill Ottaway, Todd Swanson, Les Yokom and Ray Lewis. In fourth with a score of 131 were Rick Lawson, John Jones, Jim Wise and Bill Christ. In fifth with a score of 133 were Mel Allen, Dave Holser, Steve Woleben and Lou Barresi. In sixth with a score of 133 were Sam Arcadipane, Harry Barton and Ray Cenni.
Individually, Ottaway was closest to the 150 yard stake on no. 3,Gollnitz was closest of the pin on no. 4 and Cenni was closest to the pin on no. 7.
