WESTFIELD - Those who enjoy patriotic music and learning a little history should plan to attend "America - Steadfast thru Change."
America has remained steadfast thru many changes - from days of horse and buggy to automobiles, from pony express to instant communication via cell phones and computers, and the existence of small towns to mega metropolises.
The Jopek family has also undergone change this past year, but will remain steadfast to this event thanks to the help of others. This year's piano and organ duets will be performed by Nancy Jopek and Paul Graham. Roger Jopek will once again serve as narrator for the evening. Soaring Eagle Productions is on board for the night and will be handling the lighting and sound. This year's renditions of "Yankee Doodle Boy," "Star Spangled Banner" and "Stars and Stripes Forever" will surely have the audience tapping its toes and humming along.
Continuing in the tradition started two years ago when this event was initiated, the concert is free of charge. A collection box will be available to donate items to the Blue Star Mothers Lake Erie N.Y. 4. This local support group participates in many activities honoring service members. One of these is the mailing of care packages to service members from Chautauqua County.
Some commonly requested items are baby wipes, flip flops, men's calf length white socks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, lip balm and single to-go drink mixes. Collected items will be given to Blue Star Mothers to be included with its next scheduled mailing.
So, mark calendars now. "America Steadfast thru Change" will be presented on Sunday, July 7 at 7 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 19 Union St., Westfield, N.Y. The Jopek family and friends look forward to celebrating America's birthday, a few days late.
