After a short illness, Theresa (Trippe) Vecchio died Wednesday (June 5, 2013) at her residence in Arkwright, N.Y.
Born April 25, 1928, in Dunkirk, N.Y., to the late John and Angeline Trippe, she was 85 at the time of her death.
On Sept. 4, 1948, Theresa married Charles J. Vecchio at St. Anthony's Church in Fredonia, N.Y. Together, they operated a grape farm in Fredonia. Charles, whom she dearly loved, died on Jan. 3, 2002.
During her lifetime, Theresa was a popular local singer who was often asked to perform throughout the area. Besides being a member of St. Anthony's Church, she also belonged to Beta Sigma Phi sorority and was a great advocate for the care and protection of animals. Theresa also worked for Dr. Parikh for 20 years and then spent her later years being a housewife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She was deeply devoted to her family. Family times were very special to her.
Theresa is survived by her children, Charles J. Vecchio and his wife Shirley of Sheridan, N.Y., Gregory M. Vecchio and Gina Vecchio of Fredonia and Marcia D. Vecchio of Erie, Pa.; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her brothers, George, Cosmo and Raymond Trippe of Fredonia; and sisters, Marion Soplietro and Concetta Cardinale of Fredonia.
Theresa's 10 a.m. mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Monday, June 10 at St. Anthony's Church. Relatives and friends were invited to attend the mass and called at the Fantauzzi Funeral Home, 82 E. Main St., Fredonia on Sunday, June 9 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Interment was at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Sheridan.
