CASAC offering training about designer drugs

"Designer Drugs: The New Alarming Trends" training sponsored by the Chautauqua Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Council is scheduled for Thursday, June 20.

Government officials, treatment professionals and public safety personnel are continuously changing their strategies to combat the usage of emerging abused substances which have come to be called "designer drugs." This training will explore the different types of designer drugs, including synthetic marijuana, bath salts and other analogues. Participants will be trained in the recognition of the signs and symptoms of their use, as well as the dangers associated with these drugs.

This training offering is scheduled for Thursday, June 20 from 9 a.m. to noon at the The Salvation Army, 83 S. Main St., Jamestown. Prevention Coordinator Melanie Witkowski will be presenting. There is a $30 fee. Pre-registration is required by calling the council at 664-3608 in Jamestown. Community members interested in the topic are welcome and encouraged to attend.

This course is qualifies for those seeking professional credentialing as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor, Credentialed Prevention Professional or Credentialed Prevention Specialist as approved by the New York State Office of Alcohol and Substance Abuse Services. This course is OASAS approved for three hours CASAC CPP/CPS (Section 1). This course work is recognized and approved by the Pennsylvania Certification Board through reciprocity.

The council offers a number of professional training opportunities throughout the year. Individualized on-site training, depending upon staff needs, is available. All trainings can be designed either as an in-service training, conference or workshop.
