WESTFIELD - Major Edgar Russell Stebbins, USMC (Ret.), age 75, of Westfield, died Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at St. Vincent Health Center of Erie, Pa.

Edgar was born on Dec. 21, 1937, in Erie, Pa., the son of the late Charles Patrick and Caroline Grace (Lillie) Stebbins.

He served in the Marine Corps where he was a helicopter pilot from 1960 until 1981 attaining the officer's rank of Major. He served two tours of duty in Vietnam. Major Stebbins truly enjoyed flying.

Edgar had resided in Oregon following his retirement from the military, where he had managed several Pizza Hut restaurants. He moved back to Western New York three years ago to be closer to his nephew, Bruce.

He enjoyed reading, woodworking, fishing and gardening. Major Stebbins loved the military and was proud of the time he spent serving the country.

He is survived by his two daughters, Patricia Ann Thomas and Kathleen Covey; by his sister, Laura (Bill) Wengerd of Oakmont, Pa.; by his nephew, Bruce A. Stebbins and his wife Brenda of Westfield, N.Y.; by his aunt, Frances Royce of Ripley, N.Y.; and by several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Charlotte Brand.

A graveside service with military honors was held at 1 p.m., on Saturday, June 1 in Quincy Rural Cemetery, Ripley, N.Y.
