SHERMAN - Barbara J. Wright, 71, of Oak Park, Ill, was charged with driving while intoxicated common law, DWI per se and unsafe backing on Thursday, May 23.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies were dispatched to a one vehicle property damage accident around 5:30 p.m. On arrival deputies allegedly observed a late model vehicle disabled in the ditch on Clymer-Sherman Road in the Town of Sherman. The operator of the vehicle was allegedly attempting to back in to the driveway to turn herself around when she failed to negotiate the driveway and entered the ditch. The operator of the vehicle was allegedly identified as Wright. Further investigation of the accident revealed Wright was allegedly operating her vehicle in an intoxicated state. Wright was taken into custody, processed and released with appearance tickets. Wright will answer the charges in Sherman Town Court at a later date.
SHERMAN - Sean A. Smith, 29, of Ripley was charged with driving while intoxicated common law, DWI per se 0.08 percent blood alcohol content or higher, failure to keep right and no seatbelt on Friday, May 24.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies along with Sherman rescue responded to a single motor vehicle accident on Franklin Street in Sherman where a motor vehicle had collided into a house around 2:15 a.m. The suspect vehicle allegedly sideswiped the front portion of the house causing some structural damage to house, but significant damage to the vehicle. Smith was allegedly found to be the operator of vehicle involved in the accident and did not sustain any injuries. Further investigation into the accident allegedly found Smith to be intoxicated, and he was subsequently arrested. Smith was released with traffic tickets and is to appear in Sherman Court at a later date to answer the charges.
