Tuition plan brings results

June 5, 2013
Westfield Republican / Mayville Sentinel News

Ripley school district taxpayers are already reaping the rewards of a plan to tuition students in grades seven to 12 to Chautauqua Lake.

Last month, the Board of Education announced a decrease in the tax levy for residents in the $8.4 million budget proposal which voters approved last week. When looking at other school districts throughout the county, that is a win for the town. Many other districts - even with the tax cap in place - are raising taxes while cutting programs.

By approving the tuition plan to Chautauqua Lake, costs for Ripley are going down as the number of opportunities - in terms of courses, electives and extra-curricular activities - are increasing.

Other small school districts should follow Ripley's lead. It's a win for district residents as well as the students.
