Etta G. Cornell, 93, formerly of Magnolia Rd., Mayville and Dunedin, Fla., died at 1:47 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing.
She was born July 30, 1919, in Jamestown, a daughter of the late Andrew M. and Esther Ericson Gunnarson, and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1937.
Etta had been employed in early years by the former Lockwood Sporting Goods Store, for six years in the office of Dr. Bert Rappole and the office of Dr. John Voltmann from 1970 until her retirement in 1981.
She was a member of First Covenant Church and formerly belonged to the Fluvanna Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and Vikings Lodge.
She is survived by a daughter, Susan C. Ayers of Frederick, Md.; and a grandson, Andrew C. Ayers of San Francisco, Calif.
Etta was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond E. Cornell, whom she married Nov. 6, 1943, and who died July 3, 2012; a sister, Corinne Davis, in 2003; a brother, A. Martin Gunnarson, in 1987; and an infant brother.
The funeral was held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 24 in the Lind Funeral Home. David B. Larson officiated. Burial was in Lake View Cemetery. Friends were received for one hour prior to the service in the funeral home Friday.
