Donald Rexford Symmonds Ruslink

Donald Rexford Symmonds Ruslink, 100, previously of Clymer, passed away peacefully in his sleep at Colonial Terrace, Corry, Pa., on Sunday, May 19, 2013.

He was born Jan. 11, 1913 in Union City, Pa., the son of Elverton and Ellen Spohn Symmonds. He was adopted by William and Lillian Van Earden Ruslink after his mother died in the influenza epidemic of 1918. He married Myrtle Scott Ruslink on June 12, 1943. She predeceased him on March 9, 2002.

He worked at General Electric during World War II. He was a long time employee and Highway Superintendent for the Town of Clymer. He also owned and operated the family farm on Route 474.

Don was a member of the Abbe Reformed Church, Town of Clymer Board and Town Highway Superintendent's Association. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and watching baseball. He had a keen mind and was always interested in learning. He taught his family many values for life.

He is survived by his children, Donna Deck of Erie, Pa., William Ruslink of Aledo, Texas, Marjorie (Jack) Skinner of Grand Island, N.Y., Carol (Robert) Glasier of Madison, Ala., and Nancy (William) Meade of Oneonta, N.Y.; grandchildren, Dawn (Tom) Kaliszewski, Kathy Deist, Scott Ward, Corey Ruslink, Stephen Glasier, Christin Glasier, Brian (Lea) Meade, Alison Meade; six great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and former son-in-law Olyn (Ruth) King of Erie.

He was predeceased by his former wife, Florence Mallick Wagner; his brothers Thorton and Thorald Symmonds and Dale Tressler; his son-in-law, Jack Deck; and daughter-in-law Sherry Ruslink.

The family sincerely appreciates the care Don received from Laurel and the staff at Colonial Terrace Personal Care Home.

The funeral service was held at 11 a.m., Thursday May 23 at the Spitzer Funeral Home, with Rev. Kristen Livingston, pastor of Abbe Reformed Church, officiating. Burial was in Holland Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Clymer Volunteer Fire Department or the Abbe Reformed Church.
