WESTFIELD - Digital techniques have opened new avenues of exploration for artists.
A new exhibit highlights the work of one local photographer who has transitioned from traditional to digital techniques. The Octagon Gallery at Patterson Library will exhibit "Pixels on Canvas by Kurt Moore" from Friday, May 17 to Friday, June 7. The opening reception for the artist is free and open to the public on Friday, May 17 from 7 to 9 p.m.
Kurt Moore has spent over 25 years training with traditional film, but has been newly inspired by the digital photographic medium. All images in "Pixels on Canvas" have been printed on canvas to give the work a clean finished, sometimes painterly, feel.
“Bell & Kayaks” by Kurt Moore will be part of the new exhibit at the Octagon in Westfield.
"Digital photography has opened up the old media in new ways that require me to think differently about the finished product and how I'm going to reach its final presentation," Moore said. "I have used all the new capabilities that the digital darkroom provides, while still trying to strive for a realistic look and feel, producing images that could not be made with a single exposure."
Moore got his start in photography by working on his high school yearbook and further developed his skills through college courses.
"Since those early days in the hallway in high school and the beginning classes at college I have advanced my photography in numerous ways, including earning a two year degree from the Ohio Institute of Photography in commercial photography and attending numerous workshops and seminars around the north east," Moore said.
Moore now runs his own photography business as well as a custom and retail photo lab. He is a member of the National Association of Photoshop Professionals and is a current member and instructor with The Chautauqua County Camera Club.
