WESTFIELD - Lovis G. "Junior" Gilbert, Jr., age 80, of Westfield, died Friday, May 10, 2013, at St. Vincent Health Center in Erie, Pa., following an extended illness.

Lovis was born on Nov. 10, 1932, in Ripley, N.Y., the son of the late Lovis and Ruth (Miller) Gilbert, Sr.

Gilbert was a member of the West Portland Baptist Church and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 118 of Westfield. He had been employed by General Electric in Erie, Pa., for many years prior to working as a driver for Hardaway Concrete in Lexington, S.C.

Lovis and Carolyn returned to Chautauqua County almost 13 years ago. He enjoyed NASCAR including the Earnhardt teams and the country music of George Straight. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. His family was everything to him.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carolyn M. (Kelsey) Gilbert, whom he married on March 24, 1951; his four daughters, Linda (Ralph) Gaszynski of Fredonia, N.Y., Beverly (James) Jones of Westfield, N.Y., Bonnie (Paul) Kelley of Stockton, N.Y., and Sandra (Danny) Tucker of Johnson, Kan.; and two sons James (Teresa) Gilbert of South Carolina and Lovis Gilbert III of Gilbert, S.C.; his three brothers, Robert Gilbert, Sr., of Ripley, N.Y., Raymond Gilbert, Sr., of Hartfield, N.Y., and Ronald Gilbert, Sr., of Ripley, N.Y.; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Brenda Gilbert; his two grandsons, Ralph Gaszynski, Jr., and James Jones; his great-granddaughter, Kayla Tolbert; his brothers, Miley Gilbert, Richard Gilbert, Sr., Kenneth Gilbert and Paul Gilbert; and his sisters, Betty Pierce and Mary Ann Walters.

Friends called at the Mason Funeral Home, 37 Clinton Street, Westfield, on Monday, May 13 from 6 to 8 p.m., and again on Tuesday, May 14 at the West Portland Baptist Church, 7081 W. Main Rd., Westfield, from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services there at 11a.m., with Rev. Charles Robertson officiating. Burial was private.
