WESTFIELD - With the advent of another summer, the Westfield-Barcelona Chamber of Commerce is gearing up to showcase all the many attractions of this area of Western New York and Chautauqua County.
Along with its other activities, the chamber maintains a visitors' booth on Route 5 near the Dan Reed Pier and historic 1820s lighthouse. Manned by an enthusiastic group of volunteers, the booth is open from Memorial Day through Labor Day dispensing information, helpful maps and brochures featuring local businesses and occasionally some local history.
Over the years, the booth has been visited by tourists from dozens of foreign countries and nearly every state. The proximity to the Chautauqua Institution attracts many visitors to the booth, as do the many fine wineries of the region.
In order to keep the booth open the most effective hours, volunteers are necessary. Most shifts are for three hours once a week, usually with a buddy. Days and hours are flexible. Anyone who enjoys people, has time to spare and would like to spend a few hours a week enjoying a spectacular view of Lake Erie should call Lois Perritt at 326-6982 in the evening.
