FREDONIA - John Falcone, 90, a resident of Fredonia Place, Howard St., Fredonia, formerly of Main Rd., Silver Creek, died Sunday, May 5, 2013, at Brooks Memorial Hospital, Dunkirk, following a short illness.
He was born in Fredonia, on Jan. 11, 1923, the son of the late Joseph and Laura (Polvino) Falcone.
Falcone was a graduate of Forestville Central School Class of 1940 and graduated with a Bachelor's in Arts Degree in chemistry from the University of Buffalo in 1944. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946. He started as a fruit and vegetable farmer with his father and brothers as Joseph Falcone and Sons, then with his son, grandson and brother as Falcone Farms, Inc. Falcone was a member of the Knights of Columbus Msgr O'Connor Council No. 5356, Silver Creek, the Faith Community of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Silver Creek, Tri-County Country Club, Forestville and PRO-FAC Commodity Committee. He was a former member of J. Carter Knapp American Legion Post No. 953, Forestville, served on various agricultural committees, at one time was on the advisory board of M&T Bank and was one of the original founders of the former American Massage, Silver Creek. Falcone enjoyed his children, grandchildren, golfing, hunting and raising springer spaniels.
Survivors include his wife, Rose M. (Bue) Falcone of St. Columban's on the Lake, Silver Creek, whom he married Jan. 3, 1948, in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, Silver Creek; a son, Joseph C. (Jane) Falcone of Silver Creek; four daughters, Patricia (Charles) Nebral of The Villages, Fla., Susan (Robert) Stenstrom of Alpharetta, Ga., Linda Falcone of Forestville and Gail (Richard) Mott of Trumansburg, N.Y.; a sister, Lillian (Joseph) Fischer of Liverpool, N.Y.; a brother, Joseph A. (Virginia) Falcone of Mayville; seven grandchildren, John Falcone, Stephen Falcone, David Nebral, Laura Gooding, Sarah Mott, Lindsay Mott and Rachael Mott; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Charles Falcone; and by a sister, Minnie Falcone.
Friends called at the Riles and Woolley Funeral Home, 39 Main St., Forestville on Tuesday, May 7 from 4 to 8 p.m. A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Wednesday, May 8 at 10 a.m., at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel RC Church, 165 Central Ave., Silver Creek, with Rev. Daniel Fiebelkorn, pastor officiating. Interment was in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Silver Creek.
