Dorothy B. Sommers, age 85, passed away in Ocala, Fla., on Monday, April 29, 2013.
She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Jan. 12, 1928, where she spent her early years, married and began a family of her own. After relocating to Mayville, N.Y., two more daughters were born. As the eldest children began to move away, she and the remaining family relocated to Florida, living in Ocala. Once the youngest children left home, she and her husband retired to Ormond Beach. Dorothy returned to Ocala after the passing of her husband.
Sommers became a devoted member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in New York and always openly displayed her deep faith to everyone in both word and deed.

Dorothy experienced many enduring friendships as a result of her genuine interest in others, sparkling blue eyes and beautiful smile. Her loving devotion to family was evident to all.
She is survived by a sister, Patricia A. Moss of Gainesville, Fla.; two sons, Robert J. Sommers of Carolina Beach, N.C., and William L. Sommers of Ocala, Fla.; two daughters, Patricia E. Sommers of Ocala, Fla., and Elaine A. Axson of Summerville, S.C.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brother, William D. Brown; husband, Chester L. Sommers; son, Daniel J. Sommers; and daughter, Karen M. Sommers.
No services are planned at Dorothy's request. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to Marion County Hospice or the Hospice organization in your area.
