Jay W. Tenpas, 40, of Fort Myers Fla., formerly of Sherman, N.Y., passed away April 12, 2013.
He was born June 8, 1972, in Jamestown, N.Y., the son of Wesley and Roberta Tenpas.
He graduated from Sherman Central School in 1991 and Alfred State College in 1996 with an Associates Degree in applied science in electromechanical engineering.

Jay worked as the packing plant manager and engineer for Troyer Brothers, Inc., in Fort Myers, Fla., for 16 years. His hobbies included golf, reading, fishing and hunting. In his spare time, he was always designing and building such things as grills, swamp boats and an off-road buggy. He thoroughly enjoyed his work, loved life and his friends and family.
He is survived by his parents, Wesley and Roberta Fisher Tenpas of Sherman, N.Y.; brother, Eric William (Brenda) Tenpas of Charlottesville, Va.; sister, Teri Lyn (Aaron) Dunlap of Jamestown, N.Y.; nieces and nephews, Aleia and Samantha Tenpas, Skyler and Grayson, Baylin, Fynnian Dunlap; aunts and uncles, Willa Eichelman (Thomas Jordan), Wayne (Connie) Tenpas and Paul (Pam) Fisher; and also by several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Clyde William and Barbara Jean Spinks Tenpas; Uncle William Clyde Tenpas; and maternal grandparents, Guy Robert and Pauline Vivian Bliss Fisher.
Visitation will be at Spitzer Funeral Home in Sherman on Thursday, April 18 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, April 19 at the First Baptist Church in Sherman, N.Y., officiated by Pastor Paul Sears and Pastor William Nicholson.
