WESTFIELD - Artists throughout Chautauqua County and beyond are needed to help prevent Westfield Memorial Hospital's long-time guardians from "going to the dogs" in a special effort to support Sailor's and Canton's present home.
"Two Dog Night," an artistic endeavor from the Westfield Memorial Hospital Foundation to begin its 2013 Campaign, invites all Western New York regional artists to participate in this creative event. Sailor and Canton, the large, cast-iron Newfoundland dogs vigilantly watching over the hospital on the front lawn, have been a part of the community for many years.
"In order to teach a couple of 'old dogs' a new trick, the foundation is confident our creative individuals in the county will support this artistic adventure," foundation development director Patty DiPalma said. "This is a unique opportunity to showcase the talents of the artists in the area while supporting the hospital."
Sailor and Canton can hardly wait for Chautauqua County artists and artistically inclined folks to join in “Two Dog Night” to help the Westfield Memorial Hospital Foundation kick off its 2013 Campaign. Call 793-2338 for information.
In recognition of the foundation's 35th anniversary, the Two Dog Night Committee invites 35 artists to participate. So far, 17 artists - and counting - have signed up to date. Following are the required directions for the dogs, which will be supplied by the foundation:
Decorate or artistically interpret the pair of dogs in the photo of miniature, plain white 3.5" by 6" ceramic dogs using any media - i.e., watercolor, panoramic, yarn, diorama;
The sky and imagination are the only limitations;
Dogs will be auctioned off at the foundation's special event in the fall on Friday, Oct.18 at 21 Brix Winery in Portland, N.Y.;
Submit artist participation information listed below;
Participating artists will be notified concerning pickup, contact information and specifications; and
Each pair of dogs will need to be returned to the foundation by Monday, July 1 so promotional materials can be prepared.
To enter, send name, address, telephone number, email address, preferred listing including name and/or business, discipline or focus and brief description of intended submission by Tuesday, April 30 to Two Dog Night, c/o Westfield Memorial Hospital Foundation, 189 E. Main St., Westfield N.Y. 14787.
DiPalma and the Two Dog Night for WMH Committee members Teri Casler, Gretchen Gaede, Kate Mead, Nancy Nixon, George Petrella, Ruth Ann Raines, Carolyn Rawlinson and Nancy White agree this is a unique opportunity to showcase not only talents of the artists, but also an occasion for everyone to participate. Be sure to watch for further information about the auction or sale of favorite interpretations of Sailor and Canton.
Call DiPalma at 793-2338 with creative ideas and "Two Dogs" will be reserved for the submission.
"We have a limited supply of 'dogs,' so do not delay in signing up as a participating artist," DiPalma said. "We thank you for your creative support."
