Safety Education Village Easter carnival to be televised

April 10, 2013
Westfield Republican / Mayville Sentinel News

ASHVILLE - Highlights from the recent Chautauqua Children's Safety Education Village Easter Carnival will be televised on Access Channel 5.

The 14-minute program will air beginning Saturday, April 6 at 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. each day, running through Friday, April 12.

Filmed by Destination Chautauqua County, the program includes an Easter parade around the streets of the safety village led by Sparky, the village's expert on fire safety. Sparky drives his fire truck around the village with siren and lights flashing while informing kids of safety measures they can take to protect their family against fires. He also reminds them to have a meeting place outside of their residence for easy head-counts so as to ensure no one is left behind.

Festivities around the education village included a beanbag toss, a treasure hunt, ring toss, a spin the wheel game and a visit from the Easter Bunny. There was also a chance to win a bicycle.

John "Doc" Hamels explained the Masonic child identification program. Parents can bring their children to one of the upcoming free ID events and receive an ID card, as well as a mini-CD containing pictures, important information and even finger prints of the child - all on a small disk that can fit easily into a purse or a large wallet. In case of emergency, this disk could be provided to emergency response teams to aid in resolving issues. The disk is great to include in a passport portfolio for traveling abroad with children. Scales for weight and measuring for height are available with the information then recorded into the mini-CD. Each year parents may return to an ID event and have information updated. For more information on the Masonic free child ID program, visit www.nymasonicsafetyidprogram.org.

Access Channel 5 is available to cable viewers in the Mayville, Westfield, Chautauqua, North Harmony, Sherman, Ripley and Portland area.
