March for Babies

The YWCA invites area residents to join its team at the annual March for Babies. To register online, go to and join the team "Westfield Community." Individuals who cannot participate in the walk are encouraged to support the YWCA Team with a donation. The walk is on Saturday, April 27 at Lakeside Park in Mayville. Registration begins at 10 a.m., and the walk begins at 11 a.m. This is a 3.5-mile walk along Chautauqua Lake. It is an event for the whole family. For more information about the YWCA involvement, to join the team or to learn more about supporting the March for Babies, contact After School Advantage Program Coordinator Julie Devlin at 326-4012.

Annual meeting

The annual meeting of the YWCA is set for Tuesday, April 16. The meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m., and will include the installation of 2013 officers, a welcome to new board members and reports from YWCA staff. The meeting is open to all YWCA members as well as the general public. Limited seating is available. Reservations are encouraged. Call the YWCA at 326-2011 to make a reservation.

Universal pre-

kindergarten registration

Parents in the Westfield school district who have a child turning 4 by Dec. 1 are invited to register for the universal pre-kindergarten program lottery for the 2013-14 school year. This is a free program. Information and registration tables will be set up on Wednesday, May 8 and Thursday, May 9 from 9 a.m. through noon in the front lobby of Westfield Academy and Central School. Registration forms are currently available through the elementary office at the school, but they must be completed and turned into the school by noon on Thursday, May 9. UPK students are chosen through a lottery system and parents will be notified after May 9.

Babysitting class

The YWCA Westfield is pleased to announce the babysitting class scheduled for Saturday, April 27 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. will be offered at no charge.

"Thanks to a grant from the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation, we are able to open this class up," Executive Director Katie Smith said. "There is no charge to any of the participants and it's open to boys and girls ages 11 to 15."

Safe driving

On Thursday, April 25, the YWCA will host an AARP Safe Driving Class. The class, taught by a certified instructor, will begin at 9:30 a.m. The cost is $17 for AARP members or $19 for non-members. Space is limited and reservations are required. Call the Y at 326-2011 to make a reservation.

Membership mailings

The YWCA is updating email addresses. Any member who would like to receive YWCA information via email is asked to stop in, call the office or send a note to with their name and email address. This list is not shared. It is used internally by the YWCA staff to communicate upcoming events, changes to hours or other information to members.

Free classes in April

Taekwondo classes and the self-defense classes for women will continue to be offered free during April. There is no membership required and no class fees during the introductory month. Classes begin at 5:30 p.m., each Tuesday. Pre-registration is encouraged. Call the YWCA at 326-2011 to reserve a spot.
