Alexander Findley Library offering art classes

FINDLEY LAKE - The Alexander Findley Community Library will be offering art classes at the Findley Lake Community Center.

The fee for all classes is $10. Fees must be prepaid at least three days before the start of class. All classes have a 10 student limit. Call the library at 769-6568 for information or to enroll.

Wednesdays, April 10 and April 17 from 6 to 8 p.m.: Joanne Malecki will teach a Beginning Crochet class. Malecki is involved with "Hats, Scarves and Gloves," a community service which crochets for the homeless. This class will crochet a hat and a scarf. Anyone who wants to get in on the current rage, but does not know how to crochet, this class is for them. Bring an H-hook and an 8-ounce skein of yarn.

Fridays, April 12 and April 19 from 6 to 8 p.m.: Judy Mulkern will teach a Beginning Quilting class. Mulkern is an experienced quilter who has made many fabulous quilts. This class will make a nine patch candle mat. The students will learn basic quilting techniques, cutting, sewing, pressing, assembling, hand quilting and binding. A kit will be provided, but participants must bring their own sewing machine and some sewing essentials. Call the Findley Lake library for specifics.

Saturday, April 13 from 1 to 3 p.m.: Medis Kent will also be teaching a class for mothers and daughters to enjoy together, Painted Fabric Bag and Backpack The mom will print and paint a fabric bag while the daughter will do the same to a backpack. This is a great way to spend the afternoon with your daughter. The child should be 6 to 9 years old. No prior art experience is necessary. All the supplies will be provided.

Wednesday, April 17 from 6 to 8 p.m.: Medis Kent will be teaching a class in Creating a Personal Journal. Kent is a graduate of Edinboro University with a degree in art education. This class is for anyone who loves journaling and artwork. An ordinary notebook will be transformed into a beautiful journal for art sketches or writing. Participants will make one for themselves or as a gift. No previous art experience is necessary. All supplies will be provided.

Saturday, April 20 from 1 to 4 p.m.: Nancy Apple will be teaching Introduction to Watercolor. Apple is a graduate of Edinboro University with a degree in art education. She is on the board of directors at Meadville Council for the Arts. This class is for beginners and will introduce watercolor techniques. A step-by-step procedure will lead participants through the completion of two small paintings. All supplies will be provided.
