Westfield Republican / Mayville Sentinel News

MAYVILLE - There were 43 members of the Mayville Senior Citizens who met for lunch and entertainment recently at the Mayville VFW.

President Joyce Ayers greeted the group and Chaplain Dianne Goodrich asked a blessing for the food and group. Mary Carlson called the table numbers after Louise Richir, Dolly Gilbert, Bonnie Johnson and Fran Miller set the many casseroles and desserts and made the coffee.

After the filling meal, Ayers opened the business meeting. Goodrich read, "Plane From Texas," "I can't look that old" and "An Irish Blessing" and led the group in prayer.

After the salute to the flag, Secretary Izetta Ayling read the minutes and correspondences and Treasurer Edna Brown gave her report. Goodwill chair Mary Carlson reported she had sent several well wishes and had Easter cards ready to post.

Trip Co-chair Jean Kelsey thanked those who went to the casino for her gift of "winnings." She and Sandy Anderson are taking reservations for the evening trip to Cambridge Springs to see the Patsy Cline show. There are only a few seats available. Money for that trip is due Wednesday, May 1. Call 753-2663 or 753-7814 for more information.

Anderson read a thank you from the recipient of the money donation at Christmas. The funds were very appreciated.

There was no lottery winner. Door prizes were won by Lois Maloy, Mary Carlson, Sandy Durbish and Nancy Tornstrom.

Wanda Gustafson announced the tentative date for the safe driving course as Monday, May 6 and Tuesday, May 7. It will be held in the Mayville VFW and reservations are necessary for the course. Taking the class will reduce points on licenses and reduce the cost of insurance. Call Gustafson for more information at 753-7420.

Program Chair Bill Tornstrom revealed the surprise guest when he introduced Mae West. Charmin Alice O'Grady was dressed flamboyantly as the old time actress and gave a delightful performance, including facts of the life of West. The audience asked many questions which were answered in the first person. This was a surprise well worth waiting for.

The next meeting of the Mayville Senior Citizens will be the annual ham dinner on Thursday, April 4 in the Mayville VFW at noon. Ham will be furnished be the Club. Those who attend should bring dishes to complement the meat. There will be no entertainment. All area residents 55 or older are welcome. Bring a dish to pass and personal table service.
