Westfield Republican / Mayville Sentinel News

MAYVILLE -?Melissa Bartok, director of the Mayville Library, read to kindergarten students at Chautauqua Lake Central School as part of the district's Read Across America Day celebration.

She gave each student a bookmark to take home and talked about the library's story times for preschool and elementary aged children at 4:30 p.m. each Thursday. She also invited the children to view movies at the library each Monday afternoon at 4 p.m.

Bartok was just one guest reader in the elementary grades. Retired music teacher Rick Lundquist made a guest appearance as "The Cat in the Hat" and read to all students from pre-kindergarten through second grade as well as their age mates in BOCES classes at CLCS.

Melissa Bartok, director of the Mayville Library, reads to kindergarten students at Chautauqua Lake Central School as part of the district’s Read Across America Day celebration.

Volunteer readers from the National Honor Society, community members and other teachers visited individual classrooms in grades three through six, as well as BOCES classes of older students, to read favorite stories.

Read Across America Day, sponsored by the National Education Association, is held annually on or near the March 2 birthday of beloved children's author Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss.
