The 2013 CASAC poster contest theme is "Too Smart to Start!"
Students have until Friday, April 12 to enter their poster. To promote the contest, billboards are currently displayed around Chautauqua County featuring the 2012 grand prize poster by Sherman student Julia Rater.
Contest rules were mailed to all county schools and can also be accessed at www.casacweb.org. Bookmarks were designed featuring the 2012 winning posters and were distributed to all county schools and libraries. The collection of all past contest grand prize posters are on display through April at the Chautauqua Mall concourse near the JC Penney store.
Sponsored by Chautauqua Region Community Foundation and Cummins Jamestown Engine Plant, the contest is open to all county students grades three through 12. Jamestown Community College art students under the direction of Yu Kanazawa will conduct the preliminary judging to eliminate all but four posters in each of the three age specific categories. Monetary prizes will be awarded to the final 12 posters at an award ceremony on Tuesday, April 30 at the Prendergast Library in Jamestown, including the grand prize of $100.
For over 35 years, CASAC, a United Way agency, has provided prevention and education services related to alcohol and other drugs to the residents of Chautauqua County.
