Norman Pratt

Norman "Norm" Pratt, 90, of 9651 Hazen Rd., Sherman, N.Y., passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2013, at his home.

He was born Feb. 27, 1923, in Westfield, N.Y., the son of the late Jay Francis and Anna Rosalea Hazen Pratt. Norman worked at North East Industrial Park as chief ammonia refrigeration engineer for many years.

He had served in the U.S. Army Air Corp, entering on April 21, 1941, and was a radio operator in the B26 Mauraders 8th Air Force 386th bomber group in the European Theater, Boxted, England.

He owned his own airport, Pratt's Eastern Divide D-88. He was an A and E mechanic and also had his commercial pilot license. He was also a crop duster. Using his 180 Cessna, he would provide air service for skydivers. Norman just received recognition for 55 years of service with the Olive Lodge Fand AM No. 575, in Sherman, N.Y.

He is survived by his son, Francis Quentin; daughter, Susan Jean Pratt Broeme; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sara L. Pratt on Sept. 11, 2011,whom he married July 7, 1945; three sisters, Nina Belle Henderson, Opal Loretta Hazen and Dorothy Mae Moore; and one brother, Donald Jay Pratt.

The family received friends at the Spitzer Funeral Home, Sherman, N.Y., on Friday, March 22 from 6 to 8 p.m. A Masonic service as held at 5:45 p.m. The funeral service was held at 11 a.m., on Saturday March 23 at the Spitzer Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to either the Findley Lake Volunteer Fire Dept., PO Box 158, Findley Lake, N.Y. or the Stanley Hose Co., PO Box 574, Sherman, N.Y. 14781.
