The Ripley Eagles' basketball season ended Feb. 15, 2013, with a glorious win for not only the Eagles but the spectators as well. Love, school spirit and camaraderie erupted from the long sealed pit of those opposing the survival of RCS. Alumni, parents, grandparents, visitors, coaches and students overwhelmed with RCS pride honored the ball players both boys and girls. I've seen Ripley teams as champions and teams with little or no wins. Did the boys and girls win the games on this night, no they didn't, win in honor; you bet they did. These players, even without a winner streak, held they heads high, continued to play year after year and gave the fans a season of love and entertainment. Being senior night, those approaching graduation were honored and rightfully so. These young adults have more integrity in their young hearts than any of the ... well, we'll just leave it at that. Who would think that someone of my age would learn so much from them, but I did. It was a very humbling moment to experience the strength of these students. They, the backbone of the school, have been watching the destruction of their beloved RCS for all their years of attendance. These students are smart and see much more than we do on the outside. The 2012-13 girls and boys basketball teams are far more than winners in my book, they are winners in life and that is what counts. Out of everything comes something good and these students hopefully will now know how not to live as adults, but keep the honesty and integrity that they proudly display. God bless them.
