Westfield Republican / Mayville Sentinel News

Spaghetti dinner

The annual YWCA spaghetti dinner is set for Monday, March 18 at the YWCA. Doors open at 4:30 p.m., and serving continues until 6:30 p.m. The evening will also feature an auction and a 50/50 raffle. Pre-sale tickets are available through Friday, March 15 at the main office. Prices remain $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and $5 for children 10 and under. Tickets sold at the door are $1 more, and take-out orders can be filled.

The YWCA is working on a membership email newsletter.

"When members sign up we do ask for their email," Executive Director Katie Smith said. "We're creating the database and mailing list and plan on communicating electronically with our members. Because this is a new initiative, we may not have addresses for those that have been long term members. People are encouraged to visit the main office and share their address with us. This isn't a list we will share, it will only be used internally and used only to provide our members with updates and YWCA information."

Spa Day

The YWCA is continuing to solicit vendors and spa service providers for the Wednesday, May 1 event.

"This will be a perfect gift for Mother's Day and a welcome to spring," board member Molly Catalano said. "We've scheduled this for a Wednesday evening and are planning to make it a relaxing and enjoyable girls night out."

A final list of providers, tickets and more details will be available in April.

Babysitting class

The babysitting class scheduled for Saturday, April 27 at the YWCA is open to boys and girls ages 11 to 15. Reservations are being accepted now by calling the YWCA at 326-2011.

Holiday closing

The YWCA administrative offices will be closed Friday, March 29 in observance of Good Friday. Childcare services will be offered at the YWCA during the week of Monday, April 1 to Friday, April 5. Parents interested in learning more are encouraged to contact the YWCA Child Services Office at 326-4012.

Stand Against Racism

The YWCA Westfield is joining the national YWCA to "Stand Against Racism" event on Friday, April 26 and aims to "Eliminate racism through awareness." Area individuals or businesses interested in learning more are invited to log onto or call the YWCA for details.

Board of Directors

The YWCA Board of Directors and Board of Trustees are continuing to accept applications for positions on either of these boards, according to Board of Directors President Ivy Higginbotham.

"The board of directors sets the policies for the agency and oversees the operation of programs while the trustees are charged with management of the agency assets," Higginbotham said. "The YWCA enjoys a great reputation in the community. We have a solid foundation and some exciting plans for the future. We'd welcome inquiries from individuals over the age of 18 who have an interest in serving the YWCA. Board members or trustees do not have to be Westfield residents. These positions are open to anyone regardless of address."

Contact the YWCA at 326-2011 for a detailed job description and more information.
