Virginia C. Lawton

Virginia C. "Babe" Lawton died Feb. 14, 2013, at the Chautauqua County Home in Dunkirk, N.Y.

Lawton was born in Coudersport, Pa., on Feb. 12, 1917, to the late Charles and Maggie (Giambrone) Conti. On Oct. 6, 1978, she married the late Bert O. Lawton at St. Anthony's Church in Fredonia, N.Y. After 15 1/2 years of marriage, Bert passed away on April 28, 1994.

During her lifetime, Virginia was a member of St. Anthony's parish and had been employed by Van Raalte and Fredonia Seed Company.

Virginia is survived by her nieces and nephews, Patricia Criscone (Thomas) Bollow, Charles R. (Nelda) Conti, Charlotte Criscone (Samuel) Messina, Barbara Ann Seminatore (Michael) Mawhir and Joseph C. Seminatore; several great-nieces and great-nephews; and a special niece, Julie Mawhir (Elmer) Vaughn who considered her "grandma" and was considered Virginia's "adopted" granddaughter.

She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters: Jeanne C. Barrows, Samuel R. Conti, Mary C. (Charles) Criscione, Julia C. (Samuel) Seminatore and Joseph (Angeline) Conti. According to the family's wishes, there will be no visitation. Relatives and friends were invited to attend Virginia's 10:30 a.m., funeral service, officiated by the Reverend Joseph Zalacca, pastor of Holy Trinity Church in Dunkirk, N.Y., on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at the Fantauzzi Funeral Home, 82 E. Main St., Fredonia.

Interment will be at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Fredonia, N.Y.
