February 20, 2013
Westfield Republican / Mayville Sentinel News

WESTFIELD - Patterson Library in Westfield is offering free art classes for adults in 2013 thanks to a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts.

The first class is Figural Drawing with Audrey Dowling for four consecutive Thursdays, Feb. 21 to March 14 from 6 to 8 p.m. Future classes include Exploring Pastels with Alberta Parker and Plein Air Painting with Tom Annear. All classes are free, although participants are asked to bring their own supplies. Class size is limited so interested individuals are encouraged to sign up quickly by contacting Patterson Library.

Local artist and art gallery owner Audrey Dowling will teach drawing from the human figure in Figural Drawing. Using a variety of drawing media, students will be taught various forms of drawing including gesture, contour, shading, color and mixed media. In addition to having a live, clothed model to draw from, a different still life will also be set up each class as an alternative to add into the figure drawing or as an additional alternative drawing subject. Students will explore ink, charcoal, drawing pencils, colored pencils and gouache or acrylic.
