CHAUTAUQUA - June Elaine Briggs, 75, of Potter Rd., died at 9:30 p.m., Monday (Jan. 28, 2013) in her home.

She was born June 17, 1937 in Jamestown, N.Y., the daughter of the late Alfred and Violet Mabee Newton.

June was a dedicated wife, mother to her three boys and homemaker. She did housekeeping mainly at Chautauqua Institution for several years.

She was a member of Hurlbut Memorial Community United Methodist Church in Chautauqua and the prayer groups at church. She was an active life member of the Chautauqua Fire Department for 37 years where she was a member of the fire, police and the Chautauqua County Fire Police Association.

June enjoyed reading, her church, the fire department and her "granddaughter" Gwen the Great Dane, and she was a great fan of watching her son Chris race cars at Lake Erie Speedway.

She is survived by her husband Royal Briggs, Sr., whom she married Feb. 25, 1955, in Chautauqua; three sons, Royal "Butch" (Janet) Briggs, Jr., of Chautauqua, Alden Briggs of Lanham, Md., and Chris (Paula) Briggs of Chautauqua; seven grandchildren, Rebecca, Heather (Duane), Ashlie, Alisha (Levi), Nathaniel, Kristen and John; six great-grandchildren, Andrew, Alyse, Seven, Juliana, Ella and Evangeline; and one sister, Bonnie (Gary) Bisbee of Cassadaga.

The funeral service was held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 2 in Hurlbut Memorial Community Church in Chautauqua. Rev. Paul Womack officiated. Burial was in the Chautauqua Cemetery. The family received friends from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 1 in the Freay Funeral Home, Mayville.
