Emory M. Evans, 88, of Ripley, N.Y., died Jan. 29, 2013, at the Community Medical Center in Toms River, N.J.
He was born June 8, 1924, to the late Emory O. and Anna Marie (Schoenfeldt) Evans in Wesleyville, Pa. A World War II veteran, Emory served from 1943 to 1946. In 1986, after 35 years, he retired from the Electrical Materials Company in North East, Pa., where he was employed as a machine shop inspector.
Emory was a member of the Ripley Methodist Church, the American Legion Post No. 51 of Ripley and the North East, Pa., VFW Post. Gardening and hunting were his favorite hobbies.
His survivors include his son, Lewis (Donna) Evans of Whiting, N.J.; grandchildren Erin, Kristen and Caitlin; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris L. (Smith) Evans; his children, Lester D. and Bonnie Lee Evans; and brothers, Thomas Delmas and Louis Evans.
Relatives and friends were invited to call at the Mathews Funeral Home, 104 W. Main St., Ripley, N.Y., on Saturday, Feb. 2 from 4 to 6 p.m., for visitation prior to the funeral service at 6 p.m. Interment was held privately at the North East Cemetery, North East, Pa.
