Mayville’s President’s Weekend Winter Festival features activities, contests

MAYVILLE - The 2013 President's Day Weekend Winter Festival is taking place Feb. 15 through 17 at Lakeside Park in Mayville.

The Festival, in its 26th year, will feature winter activities and contests for all ages, including snowmobile rides, snowshoe demos, giant kids slide weather permitting, food and craft vendors, a pet parade, bonfire, cold water rescue demo and fireworks, to name a few.

The children's activities have been expanded to include a fishing pond sponsored by Home Chic of Mayville and a Legos play area this year. Other activities will be a snowball distance throwing contest for children and adults sponsored by Westfield Dodge City of Westfield, a chili cook-off, children's snowman/animal building contest sponsored by Andriaccio's Restaurant of Mayville, Rainbow the Clown who will provide face painting and balloon sculptures and Kids Corner Edible Crafts.

Those interested in participating in the chili cook-off can contact organizer Ken Shearer at 753-0981 for details and information. A polar bear swim will again take place at the festival this year with the proceeds being raised benefiting the Mayville Food Pantry. Anyone who would like to take the plunge into frigid Chautauqua Lake for a very good cause should call the Mayville-Chautauqua Community Chamber Office at 753-3113 for information and to obtain a sponsorship form. Anyone who would like to show off their pet at the pet parade should call organizer Pati Centi at 269-7829 for information.

The Medallion Treasure Hunt is all set to begin Monday, Feb. 4. Sponsored by The Maple Inn of the Chautauqua Institution, the winner of this year's Treasure Hunt will win $100 cash plus a weekend stay at The Maple Inn. Registration forms are available until Sunday, Feb. 3 at the following Mayville businesses: Mayville Hardware; Webb's Year-Round Resort Candy and Gift Shop; The Cottage Collection at Webb's; Lighthouse Point Grocery; Home Chic; Chautauqua Suites Meeting and Expo Center's front desk; Crosby's; and Chautauqua County branches of Northwest Savings Bank and M&T Bank. Registration costs $2. Participants must be registered to win. Details are on the registration form.
