Toys In The Sand

February 6, 2013
By Bobby Vaughn , Westfield Republican / Mayville Sentinel News

Sand castles and cars, the dreams of a little boy

Smiles and laughter, playing with his favorite toys

An old wagon wheel, for a sandbox, the clock tick-tocks

Fleeting moments in time, they are yours and mine

This boy was in another place, another world

I was no longer there; that sandbox was his only care

A tear moistened my cheek, I knew that someday

He would come to me and say

"Grandpa, you can put my sandbox away now"

"I'm going with my friends, they live downtown."

With his hands in the sand, he had grown

And now, his favorite toy was a phone

No more would his laughter, fill the yard

This loss, would be hard

But this little boy, was growing into a man

Who many memories ago, played with toys in the sand...
