James Kolpien of Ripley, N.Y., died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at St. Vincent Health Center, Erie, Pa., after a short illness.
He was born Feb. 11, 1945, in Ripley, N.Y., the son of the late Herbert Bly and Mabel (Lamphert) Kolpien.
James had previously worked for Landsmith Cherry Corp., of Ripley, N.Y. His last place of employment was in the maintenance department of the Ripley school system.
He was a member of the First Assembly of God Church of Westfield.
Survivors include his wife, Jean F. (Nichols) Kolpien, whom he married June 13, 1970, in Westfield, N.Y.; one daughter, Brenda (Christopher) McKelvey of Fredonia; one son, LeRoy Kolpien of Dunkirk; one brother, Roger (Cindy) Kolpien of Westfield, N.Y.; one sister, Marion Waters of Ripley, N.Y.; three grandsons, Samuel Bly McKelvey, Benjamin and Elijah McKelvey; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Melvin Kolpien of Ripley, N.Y.
Funeral services were held Tuesday evening, Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. with Rev. Vince Sanzo officiating. Relatives and friends were invited to attend the funeral service and called at the Mathews Funeral Home, 104 West Main St., Ripley, N.Y., Tuesday from 4 to 6 p.m. Interment in East Ripley Cemetery. Donations in Kolpien's memory may be made to the Ripley Fire Department or the American Cancer Society.
