So many tragedies have overwhelmed us this holiday season. It's difficult to understand the reasons why.
Westfield has lost a very special person. Ray Lawson has been a vital part of the community for years. He has been involved with the fire service locally, countywide and state also. He has served as president of the Exempt Fireman's Association for over 20 years.
If you ever had an emergency or fire over the years, Ray was there.
If you attended the ox roast, played bingo or ate barbecue ribs, Ray was there.
He made it easy for me to plan the Rotary auction, Rotary Gold Rush, the Patterson Library auction and the library book sale.
He and Teddy Marsala were slavedrivers but they got the tent up.
Whenever the fire whistle blows, think of Ray. Remember also what you are driving and consider how you would feel if you had to drop everything and respond as our many volunteers do every day and every night, no matter the weather.
A special thank-you to all of you and thank you for the memories of those that have passed.
I will miss Ray and his kind words "What do you want now?"
