Christina M. (Schrader) Rizzo

PORTLAND - Christina M. (Schrader) Rizzo, 84, of Portland, N.Y., died January 9, 2013, at Absolut Care of Westfield.

Christina was born on April 22, 1928, in Lamberton, N.Y., the daughter of the late Elmer and Myrtle (Woodcock) Schrader.

Mrs. Rizzo was a member of the former St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church of Brocton (St. Dominic Parish).

A Chautauqua County resident all her life, Christina had been a dedicated homemaker who enjoyed raising her family and helping her late husband Frank, on the family grape farm in Portland. She loved flowers, horticulture in general and bird watching. She was an avid crocheter and an accomplished seamstress. She enjoyed her "one armed bandits" as well.

She is survived by her daughter: Judith M. Helman of Westfield; and her two sons: Frank T. Rizzo III of Alachua, Fla. and Michael L. Rizzo of Portland, N.Y.; She was the proud grandmother of six grandchildren that include; Andrew Rizzo of Gainesville, Fla., Lindsay Rizzo, of Alachua, Fla., Michael L. Rizzo Jr., and Erica Rizzo, both of Portland, N.Y., James Helman of Tonawanda, N.Y., and RaeKel Helman of Westfield, as well as her great-grandson, Aric Jett Rizzo of Gainesville, Fla. Christina is further survived by her sister, Doris Ferry of Fredonia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank T. Rizzo Jr., whom she married on Nov. 13, 1948, and who died on Jan. 31, 2012; her brothers, Howard and Harold Schrader; and three sisters, Geraldine Frommer, Gertrude Tenamore and Irene Jones.

Friends may call at the MASON Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St., Westfield on Saturday, Jan. 19 from 11 a.m. until the time of services there at 1 pm with Rev. David Lilley officiating. Burial will be in Portland Evergreen Cemetery.

The family suggests memorials be made to Portland Volunteer Fire Department, Portland, NY 14769.
