NORTH HARMONY - Spencer Smith, 19, of Sherman was involved in a motor vehicle accident on Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012.
According to the sheriff's office, Smith was allegedly operating his vehicle east-bound on Sherman-Stedman Rd., in the Town of North Harmony when he lost control of his vehicle going around a curve allegedly due to unsafe speed and slippery conditions. Smith allegedly went off the north side of the road where the vehicle rolled once and came to rest on its wheels against a tree. Neither Smith nor his three passengers were injured in the accident.
ARKWRIGHT - David L. Overstreet, 39, of Westfield was injured while working on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2012.
According to the sheriff's office, Overstreet was injured when the wrecker he was operating for Mancuso's on Cable Road in the Town of Arkwright allegedly slid backwards on the slippery road towards the vehicle he was attempting to winch out of a ditch. Overstreet was allegedly struck by the wrecker and then pinned between the wrecker and the bank of the ditch. Alstar crew worked to keep Overstreet stable and warm while wreckers from Mancuso's and Ellman's were called to the scene to help extricate Overstreet. The Town of Arkwright Highway Department assisted by laying down sand to help the heavy equipment navigate the slippery roadway. Overstreet was extricated and transported to Brooks Hospital in Dunkirk for treatment of his injuries.
HARMONY - Scott E. McChesney, 22, of Panama was charged with third-degree burglary, trespass and two counts of petit larceny on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies responded on Friday, Nov. 16, 2012, to a report of a petit larceny that occurred at 961 Swede Rd., in Panama. After an investigation, a warrant was issued for McChesney on Dec. 12, 2012. McChesney was incarcerated in the Chautauqua County Jail on separate charges on Dec. 12, 2012, so the warrant was filed as a detainer, and he will answer to the chargers on a later date.
FREDONIA - A 17-year-old male Brocton youth was charged with criminal possession of stolen property on Monday, Dec. 31, 2012.
According to the sheriff's office, the subject was arrested following an investigation into a car larceny on Webster Rd., that occurred on Wednesday, Dec. 19. The subject was allegedly found to be in possession of a set of keys stolen from the vehicle. The subject was issued an appearance ticket and is to appear Pomfret Town Court on a later date to answer to charge.
