John R. Farnsworth

John R. Farnsworth, 76, of 4860 Baker St. Ext., Ashville, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2012, in St. Vincent Health Center, Erie, Pa.

He was born Sept. 27, 1936, in Jamestown, a son of the late Rollo and Margaret Davis Farnsworth.

He served in the U.S. Naval Reserve from 1953 to 1961.

Prior to his retirement in 2009, he was employed by NAPA Unit Parts for 57 years. Following retirement, he worked for Lake County Dodge.

He was a life member of Lakewood Volunteer Fire Department having served as past chief and past president. His other memberships include Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, Eagles and Lakewood Memorial Post No. 1286 American Legion.

He enjoyed traveling and in earlier years was an avid bowler and golfer. He was a gifted mechanic especially when it came to boat engines. He also loved driving his lawn tractor around the yard in the summer months.

Surviving are his wife, the former Freda Peterson whom he married Sept. 27, 2002; two daughters, Sandra (Ronald) Barker of Gerry and Marcia (Bruce) Bretz of Lakewood; three stepchildren, Mark (Raisa) Rader of Alabama, Tammy (Randy) Restle of New Jersey and Dana (Trevor) Maynard of Clymer; five grandchildren, Nelson and Norman Barker and Megan, Jordan and James Bretz; eight step-grandchildren, Bobby, Kenny, Nicholas and Natasha Rader, Albrey Singer, Tanner Maynard and Madison and Mickenzie Restle; four step-great-grandchildren; a sister, Sarah (Gene) Nelson of Lakewood; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, John N. Farnsworth; a brother, Guy "Buster" Farnsworth; and a sister, Eleanor Falejczyk.

The funeral will be held at noon Wednesday in the Lind Funeral Home. Peter Dawson, Chautauqua County Fire Chiefs Chaplain will officiate.

Friends were received from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 1 and 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lakewood Volunteer Fire Department. Light a candle in remembrance of John at www.lindfuneralhome.com.
