Family Service receives funding for counseling

January 2, 2013
Westfield Republican / Mayville Sentinel News

WESTFIELD - Family Service of the Chautauqua Region received a Community Investment grant from the United Way of Northern Chautauqua County to acquire material to aid in the counseling process at Westfield Academy and Central School.

This pilot test will provide students with different, non-threatening way to express their feelings and concerns. The use of a game, for example, can give a student a way of expressing concerns in a group setting without having to focus attention on him or her. Workbooks can be especially effective with younger students as a way of helping them, through art or word games, address emotional or scholastic issues.

The character focused material will address such topics as bullying, appropriate friendships, divorce, good behavior, self-control and other social skills.
