Social prospects for volunteering

December 12, 2012
Westfield Republican / Mayville Sentinel News

Looking for a way to help out the community? Here are a few ideas.

Westfield Community Kitchen - General kitchen help needed within a warm and caring setting. Help is wanted to help nourish their guests.

Chautauqua Striders - Help youth master their skills by providing a positive role model and encouragement. The time commitment is only two hours per week to change the life of a child. Lunch Bunch - Think about joining a "Lunch Bunch" in a neighborhood school.

Child Care Room at Family Court in Mayville - Grandchildren live away? Have some extra kindness to share with a child? Playing games, putting a puzzle together, reading a book are all activities shared with the children in hopes to relieve anxiety while their parents are attending court appointments in a designated child friendly room. Flexible daytime schedules are available.

St. Columbans on the Lake - Needs some new faces from the community to bring news and conversation to the residents of this healthcare facility. Many residents may be unable to travel outside of the residence and enjoy the socialization a visitor may bring. Consider brightening someone's day and visit an elder.

Bemus Point Library - Assist the patrons to locate what they need. Guide them to find and easily access from the materials available. Flexible daytime and evening hours are available.

Ashville Food Pantry - Stock and organize pantry shelves for distribution to neighbors in need. Assistance is needed on a regular scheduled basis.

Do any of these social prospects or "random acts of kindness" sound attractive? If so, call Brenda Weiler at Chautauqua County RSVP at 665-3038 to see how to help out the community.
