Dewitt Joseph Chamberlin

Dewitt Joseph Chamberlin, 83, formerly of Route 39, Forestville passed away Thursday, Nov. 15 at the Chautauqua County Home of Dunkirk after a lengthy illness with family by his side.

He was born Aug. 6, 1929, to the late Dewitt H. and Leona (Galamb) Chamberlin.

Dewitt was employed at the Erie/Lackawanna Railroad in Buffalo where he worked side by side with his father. He then worked at Kropat Furniture, Cassadaga. He last worked for Graf Furniture and Realty Corp. in Dunkirk as a building manager, where he enjoyed his coffee break with his friends on Friday mornings.

Dewitt was a member of the Cassadaga Fire Department from 1955 to 1981. He enjoyed playing football as a youth and as an observer in his adult years. He was a Yankee fan to the end with his dog, Bubba, at his side.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Nancy (Porter) Chamberlin; his children, Kerry (Patty) Chamberlin of Buffalo, Linda (Scott) Weber of Berryton, Kan., Jamie (Debbie) Chamberlin of Homer, Neb., Kevin Chamberlin of Cassadaga, Lisa Rangel of Cassadaga, Jennifer (Andrew) Pingitore of Cassadaga, Nicole (Bradley) Szymczak of Westfield, Dewitt J. (Sarah) Chamberlin Jr. of Sheridan, and Leona (Brandon) Mahle of Forestville; one brother, Raymond (Sadie)

Chamberlin; one sister Bonnie, (Kenneth) Bestine; 15 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by an infant son, "Roy"; brother, Daniel Chamberlin; nephew, Keith Bestine; and his first wife, Irene (Kropat) Fischer.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 20 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Dunkirk where a mass of Christian burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends were invited to attend the funeral mass and called at the Fantauzzi Funeral Home, 82 E. Main St., Fredonia on Monday, Nov. 19 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Donations would be appreciated to Hospice of Chautauqua County, Cassadaga Fire Department or Sheridan Fire Department in his memory.
