MAYVILLE - Walter E. "Ike" Eichelberger, 82, of Hidden Valley Dr., Mayville, N.Y., died Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012, in WCA Hospital in Jamestown.
He was born July 12, 1930, in Rockford, Ill., the son of the late Floyd R. and Orvetta Baxter Eichelberger.
Ike was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Army, where he received a Purple Heart.
He had been an electrical engineer and a regional sales manager for Labelle Aurora in Aurora, Ohio. He was also a co-owner of AquaCosa Vacation Homes in the Town of Chautauqua.
Ike was a member of the Lake Chautauqua Memorial Post VFW in Mayville and the American Legion in Mayville.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Messinger Eichelberger, whom he married Jan. 15, 1952, in Dubuque, Iowa; four children, Diane Baldridge of Kent, Ohio, Mark Eichelberger of Raymond, Ohio, Karen Eichelberger of Moriches, N.Y., and David Eichelberger of Mayville; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Marvin Eichelberger of Loves Park, Ill; and all of their families.
He was preceded in death by his father, Floyd; and his mother, Orvetta Yadach.
The funeral service and military honors will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 1, in the Freay Funeral Home, Mayville. Rev. Mark Parsons of the Mayville United Methodist Church will officiate.
