WESTFIELD - Theta Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi International met at Zebro's in Westfield on Thursday, Nov. 1. Members gathered to conduct business and celebrate a year of surprises from secret sisters.

Nancy Palmer offered grace. Joyce Anderson conducted the business meeting during dinner. Chapter supplies will be ordered by Rose VanVolkenburg for future ceremonies. A 'Thank you" was received from seniors at Lakeview Apartments for a harvest basket.

Seniors at North Haven Apartments will receive Thanksgiving goodie baskets. A Christmas project is planned to benefit children assisted by the CASA organization. A spring project is planned to assist other organizations within the community.

The chapter plans a pledge ritual and progression ceremonies for members in 2013. Chapter minutes of Thursday, Oct. 25 were read and approved with minor additions. Joan Wahl sent a card of encouragement to a fellow sister in Beta Sigma Phi. VanVolkenburg reported the chapter treasury has been increased through proceeds from the traveling basket and white elephant raffles. The business meeting was adjourned with approval from members.

Nancy Palmer presented the program "Removing hazards from your home." With the holiday season fast approaching, members were reminded to take stock of potential hazards in the home to prevent accidents, illnesses or other tragic situations. General hazards, those found out of doors, within the kitchen, bath, basement, closets and heating devices were discussed with members adding their own related ideas. Much information was given regarding the greatest potential home hazard, electricity.

Following the program, members enjoyed revealing the names of secret sisters for the pas year and exchanging gifts. Sandy Zenns took the traveling basket filled with chocolate treats and a chocolate cookbook. Wahl won the white elephant raffle of seasonal paper goods and candle.

The next meeting of the chapter will be Thursday, Nov. 15 at the home of Diane Brosius in Sherman with Judy Roberts and Palmer serving as co-hostesses.
