WESTFIELD - The Westfield Senior Citizens celebrated its 54th anniversary on Thursday, Sept. 13 at the YWCA.
There were 39 members in attendance for a delicious baked chicken dinner catered by Calarco's Restaurant and an anniversary cake baked by Darla Augur which was enjoyed by all.
The meeting was called to order by President Shirley Kolpien. As devotions, chaplain Joyce Wainwright read a piece titled "God's Golden Treasures" written by Linda C. Grazulis.
Carol Reynolds told of an upcoming trip sponsored by the Westfield Recreation Department. There will be an autumn leaves trip on Tuesday, Oct. 9 to the Hidden Valley Animal Farm, Vidler's and the Made in America store. For more information, call the village recreation office.
The 50/50 drawing was won by Gloria Wakeley and the door prize by Nick Alonge.
Birthdays were celebrated in July by Joyce Wainwright, Ann Cochran, Mary Lou Catania and Amy Gregory. The Elders and the Vestrands had anniversaries. In August, Sylvia Colbey, Betty Reid, Geri Harper and Carlton Stetson had birthdays. Anniversaries were celebrated in August by the Cohrans and the Wakeleys. September birthday celebrants are Jack Dean, Nora Alonge, Margaret Gindling, Judy Cash and Al Vestrand.
Closing prayers were given by Joyce Wainwright.
Starting with the October meeting, the next six meetings are at noon. The Thursday, Oct. 11 meeting will be a pot-luck. The kitchen committee is Gladys Hess, Mary Cogliano, Shirley Kolpien and Mamie Criscione. Desserts will be provided by the kitchen committee only. Others should bring a dish to share and their own table service. John Wolfe is scheduled to be the speaker. A nominating committee will be appointed at that meeting.
