NORTH EAST, Pa. - Three teams shot 10 under par as the Westfield Retiree Travel Golf League finished its season at the Green Meadows Golf Course in North East, Pa., on Monday, Sept. 24.

The golfers played a four-man scramble format where each golfer hit a drive and then selected the best location to hit their second shots.

The team of Jeff Wagner, Al Muck, Bob Deuink and Roy McKinnon finished with 62, 10 under par, which also included an eagle three on hole no. 9. A match of cards showed a birdie three on holes no. 1 and no. 2 beat team two's par four on no. 2. Team two consisted of Dick Furman, Les Yokom, Gene Noble and Bob Rogers.

Team three's match of 10 under 62 went to hole no. 5 where a par four prevailed. The team was composed of Roger Kolpien, Phil Young, Doug Rothwell and Todd Swanson.

Fourth place with a score of 65 was the team of Jim Quinn, Jim Sudal and Glen Eck.

Fifth place with a score of 66 was the team of Gary Farley, Leroy Vahl, John Barone and Gary Nash. The eighth hole included a birdie two.

Sixth place with a score of 73 was the team of Vin Paternosh, Keith Rothwell, Mel Allen and Tren Jordan. The team started birdie-birdie, but had four fives and a six to take them out of the money. They made an eagle one, or hole-in-one, on hole no. 3 to bring some consolation to the round.

Hotdogs and hamburgers were graciously served during and after the golf by the staff at Green Meadows. League prizes were awarded as follows: Golfer of the Year, Jeff Wagner; most improved, Gary Farley; most consistent, Al Muck; and oldest golfer, Tren Jordan. Scramble awards were also given.

Play will begin again in the spring of 2013 with the weather a factor, but not later than the first week in June. Now the golfers can turn their attention to the U.S. Ryder Cup at Medinah Country Club near Chicago. The league will be pulling for Davis Love III, captain of the U.S. Team with players like Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods taking on Ernie Els and Sergio Garcia and other Brits. Go U.S.A.
