Habitat for Humanity to hold ReStore day

October 10, 2012
Westfield Republican / Mayville Sentinel News

MAYVILLE - The Mid-County Habitat for Humanity will sponsor a day for residents to contribute many different used, but in good shape items from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 13 at Dart Field in Hartfield, just outside Mayville.

ReStore from Buffalo will be present to accept new and gently used home furnishings which will later be sold at affordable prices. That money will be used for future Habitat projects.

A community outreach event, a ReStore truck will be on the site hosted by the Mayville area Habitat members. Residents of the surrounding community will be able to make donations of quality, usable home furnishings, as well as home improvement and building supplies.

Although ReStore is a Buffalo organization that is a retail outlet where acceptable items are sold, contributors - and the local Habitat - of accepted items also benefit from giving in several ways - all donated goods are tax deductible, responsible recycling of still-usable goods is promoted and donors give back to the Habitat for Humanity mission without having to lift a hammer or write a check.

There are items that will and will not be accepted. The drive on Saturday, Oct. 13 will be looking for quality as the main description of all donated materials. Potential donors are urged to evaluate their items and distinguish between those that are quality and usable as opposed to those that might be trash.

Examples of acceptable items include new or less than 10-year-old appliances, bath tubs, cabinets for kitchen and bathroom, interior or exterior doors, furniture, sinks, toilets and home decor. An example of unacceptable items includes clothing, mattresses and box springs and scrap lumber. There may be exceptions in both denying and accepting donations. Prospective donors are asked to carefully scrutinize each item.

Dart Field is located on 6167 County Road 308 and Plank Road in Hartfield. Questions and more information may be obtained by calling Mike Ricketts at 753-7831.
