WESTFIELD - The public is invited to the second annual comedy night benefit for Centaur Stride Therapeutic Horseback Riding Facility on Saturday, Oct. 6, from 7 to 11 p.m., at the East Dunkirk Fire Hall, 10949 S. Roberts Rd.

"We have terrific fundraisers," Centaur Stride founder and president Claudia Monroe said. "We wish that more people would attend them. Last year, the comedy night proved to be one of the most enjoyable fundraisers for everyone involved. We want to do it again and hope more people will come and see the quality of our fundraisers. Laughter is truly the best medicine."

The comedy night tickets are $25 and includes food, drinks - beer, wine and non-alcoholic beverages - and entertainment. Patrons must be over 21 to attend. There will be a basket raffle and 50/50 drawings. Anyone wishing to donate items or a basket for the event can call 326-4318 to arrange a pick-up or drop off site. Tickets can be reserved or purchased by calling Monroe at 366-3066 or Centaur Stride at 326-4318. Seating is limited and pre-sale tickets are recommended.

Opened in 1993, Centaur Stride is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit therapeutic and recreational horseback riding facility. Located in rural Westfield in Chautauqua County, Centaur Stride provides access to the benefits of horseback riding to a broad spectrum of individuals with disabilities. Programs are designed to improve many facets of the lives of riders, their families and the individuals working with them. Integrating lessons to allow riders without disabilities to participate creates awareness of the basic human needs of friendship, understanding and inclusion for all. Some make significant improvements in their physical abilities, but all riders, whether their challenges are physical, mental or emotional, or a combination of all of the above, make great "strides." Today, more than 150 individuals benefit annually. Centaur Stride has been able to keep fees for riders very nominal because of donations, volunteer support and support from the community.
