Mr. Bags, what do you have
in that bag you tote around?
What else do you have to show of life
that emulates the things you carry?
We've seen you with your pad and pen
and watched you as you bide your time
enthroned on benches in the park
with your bag of life beside you there
And daily seen you at your chair
at your local kitchen de soup
with a glass of water to take your pills
and meter to see how sweet you are
And there enjoy a cup of decaf Joe
awaiting for the fare de jour ...
a goodly plate of what's in stock
that's been prepared for all who attend
Then maybe get a bag to go,
to dine again some later time
when you have a chance to reheat
at night upon the holy light
Then to scurry like semi-fox
across the lawn and traffic lanes
out back in the waiting den
to medicate and sleep, then start again
