Bemus Point 38, Westfield 28
BEMUS POINT - The Westfield Minihawks suffered their first loss of the season in rain soaked Bemus Point on Saturday, Sept. 22, 38-28.
It was a high scoring affair with Bemus jumping out to a quick two-touchdown lead which the Minihawks just couldn't recover from. Much credit goes to the Red Dragons of Bemus Point, a very well coached and disciplined team.
On offense, the Minihawks had a tough time dealing with the quickness on Bemus's defensive line. Ryan Jafarjian scored three touchdowns, one of which came on a long kickoff return on the last play of the game. Shawn Horr tallied the other touchdown as well as a two-point conversion. The other conversion came on a pass from Evan Hauser to Nathan Culbreth.
The defense had to deal with the first heavy passing offense of the year, and it gave them some trouble. Good gang tackling helped to limit the Red Dragons running game a bit, however it was not enough to stop Bemus. On the defensive side of the ball, Austin Bourgeois had a strong game and also stepped in to play center on offense.
The Minihawks will learn from this loss and look to get back on the winning track this Saturday night at home against Brocton.
