Rotary Group Study Team members return from trip to Brazil

Chautauqua County Rotarians welcomed back from Brazil five Group Study Team members after their opportunity to experience a cultural and vocational exchange for a month.

A Rotary International Foundation program, the GSE team represented Rotary District 7090, which encompasses Western New York and southern Canada. The team members were introduced by GSE Co-Chair Dan Smith of the Westfield/Mayville Rotary Club.

Angela Hintz, member and currently secretary for her Buffalo Sunrise Rotary Club, was the team leader. Except for the leader, those who are selected for GSE may not be a Rotarian member nor related to a Rotarian.

The purpose of the program is to give young business and professional men and women between the ages of 25 and 40 a unique opportunity to experience cultural and vocational exchange.

Hintz is senior environmental engineer at Malcom Pirnie/ARCADIS, which addresses waste and environmental challenges around the world. She also works with local governments and industries in energy conservation and renewable energy projects.

She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering at the University of Buffalo and a Master of Environmental degree in environmental engineering from the University of Massachusetts.

Steven Davis, vice president of Operations for Tapecon, Inc., and sponsored by Buffalo Sunrise Rotary, resides in Buffalo. Tapecon is a family-owned manufacturing company with printing and converting technologies to help customers design, grow and improve their products.

He completed his undergraduate education at Clarkson University's Engineering and Management program and holds an MGBA from St. Bonaventure University. He is a graduate of Leadership Buffalo, a member of APICS Association for Operations Management and serves as the Clarkson University Buffalo Alumni Chapter president.

Alumni Relations officer for Brock University, Meaghan Moore, was sponsored by St. Catharines Sunrise Rotary. She lives in St. Catharines, Ontario, where she earned a degree in Business Communications from Brock University. She also works in University Advancement for which she does everything from planning and attending events, creating marketing materials, developing program initiatives and using social media to engage alumni and students.

Amy Lawrence is program director for Literacy Volunteers of Buffalo and Erie County, for which she provides free education in reading, writing and speaking English and consists of both adult and youth program. Sponsored by the Rotary Club of Buffalo, she grew up in Amherst and lives in Buffalo.

She received her Associates degree from Erie Community College and her bachelors and Masters Degrees in elementary education.

Jelaine Foster from Hamilton, Ontario, is sponsored by Hamilton A.M. Rotary and works for Kaplan test prep, a company that provides tutoring classes and text books to students who are planning to go to graduate school. She is a business developer with a focus on sales, marketing and relationship building.
