FREDONIA - The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua has been named a Welcoming Congregation, recognizing efforts to become more inclusive toward lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.

Alex Kapitan, LGBTQ and Multicultural Programs Administrator in the Office of Multicultural Ministries at the Unitarian Universalist Association, sent congratulations on taking this powerful step, doing collective work to educate the congregation on LGBTQ issues and committing to vital ongoing work in this area. Kapitan praised the congregation's dedication to welcoming people with marginalized sexual orientations and/or gender identities.

Thanks to the hard-working members of the Social Action Committee, and especially to the 2011-12 SAC chair Ann Weiss-Bingham, for their long-term efforts to make this their major project for the last church year, to educate the congregation and to secure this important designation. The new SAC chair for 2012-13 is Audrey Dowling. The congregation's minister is the Rev. Theresa Kime.

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua (UUCNC) meets at the Fredonia Grange Hall located at 58 W. Main St., each Sunday morning at 11 a.m. Child care, religious exploration classes, affinity groups and more offer opportunities for involvement. For information about UUCNC visit or visit UUCNC on Facebook, or for recorded information call 679-7944.
